The Truth Behind Stamp Collecting and Value

Posted by teenhobbies on March 28, 2008

As the old adage goes, you will never see or realize the value of something unless it is gone.

In stamp collecting, stamps do not have to disappear or go kaput before somebody knows or understands their value. In fact, people had long been knowledgeable about the value of stamps that is why stamp collecting was born in the first place.

Simply put, if not for the value, stamps would have remained the usual miniature section in the envelope that bears no significant value except for the charges that a person has to pay before their letters will be sent.

However, history has it that the value of stamps had been inclusive since the postage stamps were born in May 6, 1840.

Add Some New Touch to Your Album, Try Using Scrapbooking Charms

Posted by teenhobbies on March 28, 2008

Thinking that scrapbooking is a stuff for the amateurs? Well, this time think again.

It takes so much creativity before a theme is produced. For sure, we are not the only ones who sat on the layout with a blank look. In fact, many scrappers experience that. These may be the days when no inspiration comes into mind. This is when inspiration seems to have dried down and concepts don’t even pass your thoughts.

Well, there of course are many choices for you to resolve this. One, you can stop trying for sometime and go back to your project sometime later. This will provide “rest” for your mind. Don’t do anything that you may associate with scrapbooking and don’t even attempt to look at the materials. However, you may always go back to your works and see what you can do next. Afterwhich, you will be surprised at how many ideas would roll once you sit on your working area again.

Role-Playing Game Hobby Collectibles

Posted by teenhobbies on March 18, 2008

Most regular games deal with physical or mental skill, whereas role-playing games are mostly an exercise in imaginative ability. In the basic version of a game, the participant imagines the role of a fictitious character, and then tries to create and weave the story around this fictitious character. The characterization of the imaginative person is the most important part of the game. According to the characterization, the action of that particular character is determined. This action may be successful or failed, depending upon the rules and guidelines that have been previously set. Player has freedom to improvise, of course within the boundary of rules and guidelines. The choices made by these fictitious characters determine the result of the game.

A role playing game generally has no loser or winner. This is the basic difference between other games and role playing games. Sports, card games and other games are mostly competitive games whereas role playing games are mostly social games. Role playing games are played like serials; that means it can be episodic, and played daily, weekly or monthly. There are certain players who like to play role playing games in one session only. Crochet as a Home-Based Business

Posted by teenhobbies on March 16, 2008

Similarly to knitting, crochet has been seeing a nice resurgence in popularity in the recent years. Crochet is generally thought of as being quicker and easier than knitting. While the two are similar they require entirely different skills to master. But, the good news is that both are fairly easy to do once you learn the basics.

Items made from knitting and crochet are all the rage today. And, for those who do not have the skills or time to create them themselves, they are willing to pay you to make handcrafted items for them!

There are three ways you can make a business out of your crochet work. The first is to make items to sell, the second is to teach others to crochet, and the third is to sell crocheting items online for other crafters to use.

You can easily sell your crochet items at local craft fairs or online. And, the best thing is that all you need to get started is a ball of yarn and a crochet hook!

Whether you choose to sell your items, teach, or sell retail, there are a few basic business guidelines that you will need to follow to be successful. Some of them are:

Crochet Bikini for the Beach

Posted by teenhobbies on March 15, 2008

The coming of summer means buying a nice 2 piece suit to wear to the beach, getting a tan and having fun at the beach. Instead of wearing the usual suit made of polyester, why not try something new?

Why not show that body with a bikini made of crochet patterns? These 2 piece bikinis are ideal for those who want to show some skin. Its design is just great without revealing the private parts of the person.

There are types that are really skimpy where it only covers those areas then connected with strings and there are those that are conservative.

The person can buy this online or in the shops. The price for a pair is around $40 to $150 and is worth every penny.

There are so many designs to choose from. Some are haltered top which can be worn while walking in the beach with a pair of shorts on. There are also styles available that are strapless like the tube top.

A unique design that some would like to try is the floral design. This is also a halter top that is available in different colors that will really bring out the look in the person.

The bikini which has been around for more than 2 years has changed. In the beginning, there were reductions made to the top for the person to show some skin. Since it doesn’t look nice on the bottom, improvements were also made thus thongs and other styles which are revealing for both the top and bottom have hit the market.

Finding The Value Of Your Collectibles

Posted by teenhobbies on March 14, 2008

If you have been into collectibles for any amount of time, you probably have a few that you think could be valuable. While few people get into collectibles just for the money, it is still quite common for someone to make some profit when they resell their items. However, maybe you have had a collectible for some time now and you aren’t really sure how much it is worth. For that matter, you aren’t really sure if you want to sell it or not. Well, fortunately it is possible to find out the value of an item without committing to sell it. If you want to find out what you can fetch for your item, you should follow some of the guidelines that I am about to go over. They are very useful in getting an accurate quote.

First of all you need to have a good idea of what exactly it is that you have. A brand and model is not quite enough. There might be small variances that set it apart from the rest. You should also consider the condition. Ideally, the collectible is completely new in the box, having never been opened or damaged in any way. However, this is not always the case, and the other possibilities have a huge range. Compile all of the information that you can about the item and its condition before you start on the rest of the process. This will act as a helpful reference as you compare your item to the rest that are on the market, and determine if it has any value or if it is worthless.

Next, you will want to check online auction sites, mainly eBay, for your item. Finding your item might be a difficult task since there are literally millions of items on there, but it is possible if you are attentive to the categories that you are searching in. EBay has entire sections devoted to collectibles, and if you look you will probably be able to find the category that yours belongs in. You can search for the brand and model of your item right off the bat, but if you narrow down the category first then your results will be much more specific. After you have found results, check the little box on the left that says “Show completed listings only.” If you look at listings that are still open, you won’t get a good idea of the price, since it could still go up with more bids. Completed listings will show the final value that you can expect.

How to Pick the Best Tent

Posted by teenhobbies on March 13, 2008

How to Pick the Best Tent to Ensure a Comfortable and Safe Refuge While Camping

An essential piece of equipment, your outdoor camping experience is largely dependent on the quality of your tent. Which is why there is a huge quantity to choose from.

The first and simplest way so as narrow your tent choices is to decide the tent dimension that you require.

Tents are constructed to house a specific number of individuals. A solo backpacker will be looking for a tent that is much smaller than a family of campers that require a roomier tent.

Almost all tents are labeled with description and their capacity which indicates how many individuals the tent can hold comfortably.

Unless you are intent on having a collection of tents in different capacity or sizes, it is wise that you establish the largest number of individuals you believe will sleep in the tent.

If you normally backpack with a companion but this summer is going solo, then it is wise to purchase a “two-person” tent.

Basically, there are four tent components: namely the poles, tent body, rain fly and the tarp which is some kind of footprint or ground cloth to extend your tent’s floor life.

Summer, Winter, Spring or Fall

Posted by teenhobbies on March 11, 2008

What Is The Best Season For You To Go Camping?

Different camping seasons impart different lights and views.

Summer camping

The summer is the most popular season for campers because the weather is dry and warm. Campsites are understandably more crowded during the summer. You need to plan ahead, make reservations and arrive early so to find a good campground especially during weekends.

Winter camping

There are some people that find winter camping more satisfying compared to the summer months, because they say, winter camping requires a specific strength and courage that summer camping does not.
If you love the challenge it brings, then consider “winter camping”. You can enjoy sleeping in “mild weather” outside.

Likewise, it gives you added “self-confidence” realizing that you actually can endure the preparedness and ingenuity this kind of outdoor adventure requires.

Certainly, there are many advantages to camping during winter; no snakes, bugs, flies, bears, dust or mosquitoes, plus winter wilderness view is breathtaking.

You can go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, “cross-country skiing” and engage in many heartening challenges.

Furthermore, campgrounds during winter will most likely be quiet, empty and normally cheap.

However, lack of preparation and readiness brings dangers. There are many hazards and dangers that one needs to be familiar with, like large quantities of snow falling from “overhead trees”. But with good planning, you can enjoy the slower pace of winter camping.

Here are some reminders for winter camping:

1. Drink plenty of water to fight or avoid hypothermia because water effectively replaces all the moisture that was expelled from the body due to constant heavy breathing. Just drink water even when you feel you are not thirsty. The recommendation is one gallon of water a day.

2. At signs of an approaching storm, immediately put your rain gear on. Should you get wet, change right away to warm and dry clothing, because moist clothes will quickly suck heat from your body.

3. Remember to pace yourself.

4. Do more tasks than you would normally, because movement will generate body heat.

5. Following tips 1-4 and wearing clothing layers, especially clothing that is polyurethane foam insulated will help you prevent frostbite. Read the rest of this entry »
