Rules in Playing Sudoku

Posted by teenhobbies on October 31, 2007

If you’re fond of playing puzzles, solving math problems, and think logic reasoning you can actually combine them all in playing the Sudoku puzzle.

For you to know, sudoku was first seen in a magazine published in New York in the late 70’s by specialist puzzle publisher Dell Magazines under the name of Number Place. “Su” means number in Japanese, and “doku” means the single place on the puzzle board so that each numeral can be fitted into. Although its name sounds like Japanese, its origins came from Europe and America in which the game shows the very best in thinking and reasoning. Sudoku initially caught Japan in 1986 and gained international prominence in 2005. Unlike many other games that were known within the span of time, nothing can beat Sudoku’s challenge.

Australian Quilting

Posted by teenhobbies on October 25, 2007

Women were given the materials and tools to make patch work quilts en route to
their Australian destination so that they could sell them and be able to support
themselves when they landed.

Sadly, only one of these appears to have survived, but it is clear that the British
women brought with them the skills and traditions of quilting.

Quilting was thought to be a ‘suitable’ occupation for a lady, and the quilters
soon began to put their work together at exhibitions, and a market in quilts was
quickly established. The British traditions were retained, and quilting in Australia
continues to respect and reflect the styles and patterns of the mother country.

The History of Quilting – The United Kingdom

Posted by teenhobbies on October 25, 2007

Clearly a colder climate than Hawaii, the traditions of ‘make do and mend’ were
such that for centuries, cloth was very valuable and not to be wasted. Long
before any mechanical cloth production, every piece of cloth was made by hand
or with simple weaving frames. Anything so time consuming to produce could
only be treated with care and considered to be of value.

Long before the first settlers arrived in America, British women, and men were
involved in patchwork and quilting, both for home and commercial benefit. So the
history of quilting in Britain goes way back.

There are records of padded clothing being made for soldiers to be worn
underneath their armor to protect them from the metal, and also to provide
warmth and comfort. And as far back as the fourteenth century, quilted fabrics
were used as bedcovers and clothes.

The History of Quilting – Hawaii

Posted by teenhobbies on October 25, 2007

Hawaiian quilting is said to have started when the wives of two chiefs were
introduced to quilting by missionaries on board a boat. Hawaiians would not
naturally have begun to quilt for domestic use, as quilts were not needed in the
warm Hawaiian climate.

The missionaries showed the Hawaiians how to cut up fabrics into pieces and
then sew them back together. This the Hawaiians found rather wasteful, as they
were careful with all their resources and didn’t understand the concept of cutting
up a large piece of material, only to sew pieces of it back together, and then be
left with bits that couldn’t be used. Read the rest of this entry »

About Quilting

Posted by teenhobbies on October 25, 2007

Quilting is as old as the hills, and for many, has that wonderful combination of
domestic necessity, social cohesion, and craftwork and commemoration.

Quilting methods don’t vary enormously throughout the world, but the designs
are largely specific to a country, or a society, although the traditional American
patchwork designs have become loved world wide.

It is wonderful to have such a craft, which is a means of handing down traditions
amongst womenfolk mainly, and which has an end product that can both look
beautiful, and keep you warm at night.

An exception to this is of course the Hawaiian quilting tradition, which began
under the tutelage of the missionaries, and evolved into a means of recording
the Hawaiian beliefs and lives. Their quilts talk of their gods, their departed
spirits, the new members of their society yet to be born, and the main historical
and cultural events of their society. Their use of the beautiful flowers and the
love of their culture give Hawaiian quilting a truly magical and precious quality.
In colder climates, the quilting circle was an opportunity for the women to come
together, to talk over the major matters of the day and to provide invaluable
support for each other.

The long awaited day finally arrives! You wake up put on your cap and gown and show up at the appointed place surrounded by a mob of family and friends all with ear to ear smiles and loads of balloons, flowers, and other paraphernalia designed to show their support and congratulations for you having made it! Yes Graduation day is here! After the speeches and awarding of degrees and turning of the tassels you have if anything probably been inundated with one thought. The idea that this is by no means the end of you education yet just the beginning of your journey on the road to life long learning.

Free Education as a Company Benefit When Your Company is a College

Posted by teenhobbies on October 24, 2007

As we discussed in the last chapter there are employers that will provide its employees with a certain amount of reimbursement for college tuition. However, a well guarded secret is, many times at a college one of the employee benefits is being able to attend tuition free. This comes in various names such as tuition waiver, employee waiver, tuition reduction and tuition remission. The important thing to ask when considering these benefits in terms of free education is will they allow you to earn a degree while working flexible hours on the job.

There was a time when I did not know about the secret of working at a college to attend it as a student and receive a free education. Let me share with you how I found out about this aspect of free college. I was planning on attending a Career-Focused college and I made the necessary visit to the financial aid office to determine how I would finance my education.

The Financial Aid officer was running down the list of all the different options I was qualified to receive in order to finance my new career in Business Administration. She was friendly, knowledgeable and very talkative, that is until we got to a part in our conversation where I asked her about her being a student.

Reap The Benefits of College Work Study and Student Worker Programs

Posted by teenhobbies on October 24, 2007

One of the major ways to cut down the cost of education and receive financial aid while attending college is through the numerous college work-study programs that most if not all institutions offer to qualifying students. Students who meet an accepted level of proficiency usually a grade point average of at least 2.0 or higher and who have an adequate completion rate can take advantage of such programs to assist them in cutting down costs and increasing their financial aid.

These programs are designed to support diligent students who really apply themselves to their education. Many students are not aware of the fact that they can apply to work at their college and receive compensation. Opportunities available include programs where the student’s income comes directly from the school itself or comes from the government and is a part of the student financial aid program. Positions available include but are not limited to, tutoring, assisting in student services, the library, the IT department, the list goes on.

To take advantage of these positions you must first and foremost be an excellent student.
Then you need to approach either the Career Development Center or the Financial Aid Office, since many of the in school work positions are actually funded by government financial aid programs. If you qualify because of GPA and completion rates then you only have to worry about the same things you would be concerned with when trying to get a job elsewhere.

Posted by teenhobbies on October 24, 2007

Many players of the Sudoku find this puzzle game very difficult to solve. However, because of the clever minds of most players, they have created techniques, strategies and solutions to make the game simple.

The following are some of those solutions the players have made in solving any levels of the Sudoku puzzle game.

1. Scanning

This solution is executed at the start and all throughout the game. Scans should be done for many times in the middle of studying the puzzle. There are actually two basic techniques involved in scanning they are:

• Cross-hatching – This is scanning of rows and columns to know which line holds a numbers that should be removed. The process is repeated in rows and columns. Print a Sudoku Puzzle: Test your Logic and Number Skills

Posted by teenhobbies on October 24, 2007

Have passion in playing logic and numbers? Maybe you are now an expert when it comes to Rubik’s cube or the magic square. But have you already tested your logic and number skills in a Sudoku game? Whether you are unfamiliar with this game or you have already spent 2 days solving a single Sudoku puzzle, then this article is just right for you.

About Sudoku

Also known as Number Place, Sudoku is a logic-based placement puzzle. The puzzle is composed of a 9 x 9 grid which is further divided into nine 3 x 3 sub-grids or also known as regions. Before you start completing the puzzle, you are given some cells that are initially filled up with numbers from 1 to 9 (number of cells initially filled-up depends on the difficulty level of the puzzle).

The main objective of this game is to completely fill-up all the remaining vacant cells with the numbers 1 to 9 provided that you adhere to the “single number per direction” rule of the game. That is, every column, row, and sub-grid (which is referred to as the direction) must contain only one instance of each number. For instance, you have an initially-placed number 5 at the 5th column and on the 7th row of the puzzle. Such number must only appear once on that particular column and row. Furthermore, it must also appear only once on its assigned sub-grid or region.

Rattle Your Mind with an Electronic Sudoku

Posted by teenhobbies on October 24, 2007

Notwithstanding Sudoku latest explosion in fame, the puzzle game has been in existence for so many years. Thus, it is somewhat astonishing that no one has ever troubled to manufacture an electronic version which is handheld. Well, do you know that these fun gadgets are now available commercially? Amazing, isn’t it?

Electronic Sudoku, as you might have guessed, is the portable handheld LCD replica of the world’s loved number puzzle game. It offers a same addictive effect as with the published puzzle game in any newspaper worldwide. The only variation is that your mitts won’t be made much of a grimy or be abstracted by folio of your non-stories while you’re playing.

If you are going through this article and speculating if Electronic Sudoku turns into a portable radio maneuvered space dog, edible blazing scorpions or DVD player, the answer is definitely no. hence, why do some electronic stores are selling it? It is because Sudoku is in fact is as absurdly convincing as people say and that Electronic Sudoku may perhaps not feature diving and bombing extra terrestrial aliens as well as mallet-jolly plumbers, however, Electronic Sudoku is just like the unpardonable as King Kong and the world’s dinosaurs.

Maintain Your Financial Aid By Being a Dedicated Student

Posted by teenhobbies on October 23, 2007

You wake up one morning feeling no desire to get out of bed. Even though you’re not sick and you know that you have class in an hour you still just want to lie there and think it won’t hurt to miss today. While this might be true in a few unusual cases the reality is that missing class can hurt you economically in the long run if you aren’t careful. The fact is that in terms of receiving Financial Aid for education, there are two conditions that must be met and maintained by students if they want to continue receiving such assistance.

One criterion for receiving Financial Aid is a student’s completion rate. Most do not realize how financially devastating it can be to them if they make a habit out of skipping classes. Yes, if you do not complete a certain amount of your class time you will be cut off from and not qualify again for a very long time for federal financial funding.

The government will require you to maintain a 65% completion rate to continue loaning funds to you. Many uninformed students just “blow off” their classes and get a shock later when college officials inform them that they have lost their Federal Aid and now must apply for a private loan in order to continue their studies. This unfortunate situation can last for one or in many cases several semesters. Remember, the completion rate average has to be recalculated and must reach 65% and stay there for you to qualify for government assistance.

More Scholarship Websites

Posted by teenhobbies on October 23, 2007

Besides Fast web there are many other websites that claim to help students finance their education through scholarships. To assure myself of which ones are legitimate, I visited a financial aid office of a local private college and asked for up to date information on where to obtain scholarships and grants. The financial aid officer handed me a paper that had a list of the following top websites recommended by them as well as other colleges. Fast web as you can see is the first on the list, however it is followed by others that are equally interested in providing assistance to students looking to locate legitimate sources of grants scholarships.

Come and Get the Best Free Sudoku Download Online

Posted by teenhobbies on October 23, 2007

People decades ago would be content in spending their time reading, playing games and not rely on new-fangled past times just to pass and while the time away. They were contented in simple things that keep their minds active. Not like now, where people are so reliant to the things that the new technologies could offer such as television, washing machines, radios, refrigerator and a lot more.

Modern technology has allowed people to slack off. We are now very reliant to modern technology with every aspect of our lives. Many people have fallen deep into this trap and have neglected to spend worthwhile idle time to expand their mental horizons. But there is still hope yet, technology and mind exercises can be combined to keep ourselves sharp all the time.

Well maybe this is your first time to encounter the word sudoku. This is a Japanese word that means “the digits must remain single”. Digits or numbers are fun to play with that is why sudoku became an enjoyable game.

Sudoku is a puzzle game that can makes your mind spin like crazy if you are not good in thinking logically. This will make your minds twist until you reach the final answer that you need to be looking for.

Fast Web and Other Scholarship Websites

Posted by teenhobbies on October 22, 2007

There are literally thousands of philanthropic organizations as well as private parties who are ready and willing to give financial aid to students who show even the slightest degree of commitment and drive. The challenge is taking the time to sort through all of the possibilities to successfully identify the legitimate opportunities.

That’s where Fast Web comes in to play. Fast Web claims to be the most complete source of local, national and college specific scholarships, Fast Web states on their website that they have access to 1.3 million scholarships worth over $3 billion.

How does Fast Web know which scholarships and grants you specifically are eligible for? First you go to fastweb.com and set up an account. The usual information is required of course, such as, name address, etc. However the next few pages ask you for very specific input, such as income, nationality, likes and dislikes. These seemingly random questions are not at all just for general information. They are designed to pinpoint which specific organizations that offer grants and scholarships will benefit you personally.
